You posted that you had hardware failure. Can you say what have been gone or "how much" have gone? You can open some kind of donation ask (simple like tell a PayPal account). Many of us pay nothing bacause we're using opensource OSes and programs. It's a good opportunity to spend some money!
Would a backup server be of assistance. I could donate one.(I have a bunch of hardware in the garage mostly 32 bit stuff) Nothing super fast but something that could be used in a pinch.
I'll just repeat my offer: please open an Amazon S3 account, upload the archive and open a paypal account for donations, I'm sure it will be better than the current situation.
sounds like a catastrophic failure: may require complete rebuilding of hardware And software. I imagine re-creating get/playdeb from the start. also, no revenue from teh site. A PayPal OMFG We Need Cash is a good idea.
Just one more person here who would encourage you to get your webpage back up, and enable a way accept donations. Many thanks for maintaining your repositories these past several years!
Do you know when the getdeb repository server is going to be back online? That post was on December 9th 2012 and it's now January 14 2013. Is the getdeb repository server coming back online anytime in the near future?
Sorry I have to remove getdeb from my repositories. I will not be putting them back in. Thanks for the software over the years, but this is just too unreliable as a source.
It is now January 18th, and I would like to know why (if a power supply has gone down, and a server has lost power) it has A) not been put on a backup, and B) why is has taken more than a month to get said server back online. Are there plans to ever get it back online?
This is absolutely ridiculous. How on earth is anyone supposed to trust getdeb as a viable, reliable, trustworthy source for software after a stunt like this. After that December 9th post, I can see a really bad server crash as a week down, tops.
A month and a half is completely unacceptable. Nightingale is sitting up on getdeb, and it's one of the MANY pieces of software that is unretrievable thanks to this mess. I can't put in to words how ludicrous this scenario has become.
Made worse still is the fact that no one has come forward and said "we're working on it" or "we're sorry for the extended delay because..." Without anything like that to go off of, this just looks like a lot of laziness and incompetence.
From GetDeb.net post on G+: -- GetDeb and PlayDeb discontinue
After the server crash where also the GetDeb and PlayDeb database was lost and given the fact that GetDeb and PlayDeb now have too many packages to be handled as a one-man-project I decided to discontinue GetDeb and PlayDeb. In the last years I have spent so many hours in the project that now it is just too much for me to maintain beside my usual job.
But this does not mean that all the work in GetDeb and PlayDeb is lost. The repository is still completely mirrored, e.g.: http://mirror.informatik.uni-mannheim.de/pub/mirrors/getdeb/ubuntu/pool/ (Google search: 'quantal-getdeb-testing intitle:"Index of"' should give you a good list). Also all the package script (i.e. the debian directory) for every package in the precise and quantal repository are available in my GitHub repositories: * https://github.com/ckorn/GetDeb * https://github.com/ckorn/PlayDeb * For special upstream watchers there is this repository: https://github.com/ckorn/Upstream-watchers
The web interface of both GetDeb and PlayDeb is called apt-portal which is specialised for viewing the information in an apt repository: * https://code.launchpad.net/apt-portal
And finally there are the scripts and little helpers of the automated build process: * https://code.launchpad.net/debfactory
The entire repository of Debian packages can be downloaded with this script: * http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=JaVkvFFZ
It is currently 84GiB in size so please only download it if you really want all the packages. If you just want some simply use a mirror.
Let me also thank everybody of you for the trust you had in GetDeb and PlayDeb as an unofficial repository. I think GetDeb and PlayDeb were one of the greatest unofficial repositories for Ubuntu packages. I think to spend some time to bring some of the packages in the official repository.
Thank you and bye! -- Thats all Folks. GetDeb & PlayDeb are dead for now.

good luck to you guys...keep up your good work with your repository...not going to unckeck it....waiting to see it back...;)
MY FACE IS MELTING WITHOUT MY PRECIOUS REPOSITORIES!!! DONT YOU FEEL MY SUFFERING?!?! DONT YOU CAAAAAAAAAAARE?!?! D:
And how do I install the new release of supertuxkart now??
Would a contribution help more than normal?
Good luck with getting the server back up. Patiently waiting.
Good luck
Good luck, a great project!!
PlayDeb does have a mirror which you can add to your software sources.
I've used this solution when the main getdeb repositories go offline for an extended period.
As with all mirrors - do not have both the mirror and the actual site active - tick either but not both.
How-to
Add the following software sources:
deb http://mirrors.dotsrc.org/getdeb/ubuntu lucid-getdeb apps
deb-src http://mirrors.dotsrc.org/getdeb/ubuntu lucid-getdeb apps
then get the software source key by copying and pasting the following in a terminal:
sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com A8A515F046D7E7CF
sudo apt-get update
N.B.
Change lucid-getdeb for you your distro name, maverick-getdeb, natty-getdeb, oneiric-getdeb, precise-getdeb, quantal-getdeb
You can also use the games mirror repo by adding the same two lines, only changing apps to games
That one long power outage, I really hope it is not some sort of permanent downtime... **patiently awaits for repo to come back online**
Am patiently waiting...that must have been one hell of a power outage.
Damn when will we see this back up Antix needs you back.
I dont pray (normally).
but i cought myself praying for getdeb.
Goog luck!

What's the latest status? Do you have a projected time to restoration? Enquiring Minds Want To Know (tm)! :-)
Where is www.getdeb.net??? Whats is going on? It`s down for a long time. any update info, plaese.
Maybe we'll get a nice Christmas gift and have getdeb back for the 25th? :)
Does anyone have any idea when the site will be up running?
Use a mirror, just add one to your /etc/source.list:
deb http://ftp.dk.debian.org/getdeb/ubuntu/ quantal-getdeb apps games
or
deb http://mirrors.dotsrc.org/getdeb/ubuntu quantal-getdeb apps games
for precise users or equivalent...just add this mirror to you sources.list:
deb http://mirrors.dotsrc.org/getdeb/ubuntu precise-getdeb apps
and deactivate the old one...;)

do mirrors update their software? im using them and answer is no.....
TBH I am starting to wonder if this will ever be back up...
Would a backup server be of assistance. I could donate one.(I have a bunch of hardware in the garage mostly 32 bit stuff) Nothing super fast but something that could be used in a pinch.
Would be nice to have it up and running.
Ah shmugs, I was about to install FlightGear
Good Luck getting the servers back up.

good luck in the next year!

Since GetDeb starts to work?????
My understanding is that the power outage actually damaged their servers so the issue is also hardware. It may take some time for them to get back up.

any new updates on this?
Me too! (Hoping that getdeb is back soon!)
Oh, please, please come back!
It's not coming back, is it?

I miss Playdeb. Get well soon :).

Can we help somehow? What is needed to get back online?
Well this sucks...
Any chance we could re-build this by using Launchpad itself? Any ideas about this topic?
According to the Google+ profile this project is dead. R.I.P.

what hardware is necessary to get service up again?
At this point it looks like we need a combination of hardware, a colo site, and a team of folks to manage and maintain the repositories.
I was just searching for this info for some time. After 1 hour of continuous Googling, at last I got it in your web site.
